Sorry the slight rant came first, I just feel that it's an important factor that needs to be considered. You story is heart-wrenching, no one should have to go through that. Ever since coming across this campaign, I never ride out without a fluorescent tabard- the extra seconds could make all of the difference. Luckily my pony is extremely sensible, so I can only hope that drivers will slow down and give him enough space. Generally, most drivers in my area are very considerate, however, there are the odd few who will come tearing around a blind bend only to be faced with a horse! The worst thing I saw was a driver who beeped just before a bend, as if to say, 'I'm coming, get out of the way'. They then came tearing around the corner. Any horse or ever pedestrian would have stood little chance.

I have to say both as a rider and a driver, I think there is a big problem with common courtesy! I was driving to see my horse (ironically!) this morning, when I came across three young riders (wearing no fluorescent gear) riding three abreast. I slowed down and waited for them to move over, however they completely ignored me for about a minute. They finally decided to move over to single file, and the road widened out so I decided it was safe to pass them. I was surprised when they decided to begin to trot and as I passed, the lead horse spooked so I slowed right down to give the rider a chance to calm her horse. At this point, she turned around to glare at me! No thank you, and the other two riders just compltely ignored me. I was appauled.

Of course, as a rider, I will continue to treat horses with the upmost care and respect. However, I can totally see why drivers get cross with them if this is the was they are treated. Riders need to realise that they represent not only themselves, but all other riders. Their ignorance and arrogance could have severe indirect consequences for the next rider! Remember that manners cost nothing. I don't expect a big wave or anything that means taking your hands off the reins, just a nod or smile will suffice!

ps... I have bought the stickers and wear one proudly on my flourescent tabard! xx

Wendy Case, Eastern Oregon, USA. Keep up the good work! We are trying to make people over here understand the problems through Holly's demise. We'll be in touch again soon for more stickers and other merchandise. The roads are horrible to ride on over here too, and I live in a very rural area!

I am terribly sorry about your wonderful horse. After I read it, I felt like crying. I accepted your ring invite and I was also wondering if I could put your site on the homepage of my site. I want to spread the word and help. Again, I am terribly sorry, but at least she's in a better place, right?

I was so sorry to read Holly's story, what a horrendous thing to happen:-( My friend had something similar happen to her when she was young, although fortunately her horse wasn't hurt in any way. He was a great big cob with a huge bum that ended up on the car's bonnet and left a massive dent in it and the car driver with a great big garage bill!!

Pauline shephered is right, a TV add on at prime time is a great idea, it will certainly spread awareness.

My horse was also involved in a traffic accident, he had deep wounds to his hind quatres and he now has some bad scarring. Fortunatley, i wasnt riding him at the time, it was a year or so before i got him. After the accident, the owner was afraid to ride and he ended up being left in the field to get fat. When i got him, he became a totally different horse. He was a slim jim and ive never won so many rosettes!!

Im always careful when i ride on the roads now...keep up the work!!!

Fantastic campaign i hope it goes from strength to strength. What we need is a 'hard hitting tv add on at prime time then maybe car drivers will think twice about their speed, especially on rural roads, not only for the safety of our horses but pedestrians too. I was once stopped by a car driver who explained that she could not see me properly as i was wearing dark clothing whilest riding under an avenue of trees even though it was a sunny day. I took her advice and now never ride without my big high vis jacket on. Good luck with your campaign, i will keep in touch x

God I am so sorry to hear about Holly, I would be utterly distraught if anything happened to my mares, or even someone close. That idiot driver should have been done for causing death by dangerous driving just like they would have done if thye had killed a person!!! It's sickening!!!! You were both so so brave!!!

Being a horse owner and now having a pony for my daughter to ride, i tend to take her out on her pony in hand, it's amazing how often i have to tell people to slow down when im out with her. This web site is amazing and my heart really goes out to, for all the suffering you have and your poor Holly, went through on that sunny day.
People do need to take a step back and think when they get behind a wheel of a car, because they will never know what is just around the corner. I will be purchasing many items from you in the near future, good luck with everything you do. I work as an instructor at a riding school so if you want to send me information i can post up on the board please get in touch with me at my e-mail address.

what a sad tale, its bad enough to lose a horse but in such a way, did the driver get prosecuted ?

Brilliant campaign!
I would love to help you out more by designing you a personal website entirely free! (Unfortunately I can only design the page and not give you a domain name!).
I have been riding for 12 years, and have luckily never been involved in an accident on the road, but my heart goes out to you and I hope Holly sleeps well.

If you are interested in my offer, please email me =)
