- Tell somebody of your intended route and estimated time of return.
- Take a mobile with contact details clearly listed eg Vet, Home, Yard.
- Put signs on your land by the road eg "Slow Down".
- Keep away from busy main roads as much as possible.
- Ride on the left hand side of the road.
- Give clear and accurate hand sinals.
- Acknowledge and reciprocate courtesy with a smile.
- Lead on the left of the road, with the horse on your left wether mounted or dismounted. Keep yourself between the horse and the traffic.
- Wear protected head gear at all times to the current safety standard.
- Check your tack before you set of as things are likely to break.
- At all times wear flourecan/reflective accessories clothin, or at least leg bands on your horse and tabard for yourself.
| | - DO NOT ride in failing light or darkness. If you have to, Allways wear reflective gear, and fit leg bands above the fetlock joints of your horse.
- DO NOT ride out on roads KNOWN to be dangerous form snow or ice.
- DO NOT attempt to ride a GREEN horse to the road without n experienced horse present.
- DO NOT take a mounted group of more than eight horses on the road. If there are more of you, form into groups, each with a competent leader and Sheppard.
- DO NOT ride more than two abreast on the road.
- DO NOT panic if your horse slips and falls. Stay calm and let him find his feet. Check he is uninjured and remount on non slippery ground.
- DO NOT ride on the road in foggy conditions after dark.
- DO NOT trot on slippery surfaces.
- DO NOT trickle over a major crossing, Always cross in a group.
